Opt light cotton clothes when you travel to Kerala. You can also buy cotton clothes after reaching Kerala as you can find fabulous and stylish cotton shirts,tops,pants and skirts. If you are coming via. Cochin airport,trivandrum airport or kozhikode airport you can buy cotton clothes from fabindia, which is an exclusive shop for ethnic indian clothes. You can also opt other textile shops but they dont provide ethnic clothes.

Since the climate is hot it is advisable to wear hat and sunglass. Prefer wearing sandals or hawai slippers. Keep a handfan handy. Please be careful when you select sun screen cream or lotion, as the SPF required for indian climate may not be the same as the one you use in your country. If you can consult your skin doctor in that matter it will be perfect.

Please dont drink water that is not bottled. Prefer buying bottled water from good shops. Since it is hot,it is advisable to have tender coconut water from local shops or stalls put up by coconut development board. Tender coconut water is tastey and energetic and it prevents dehydration. Butter milk is also advisable as it quenches thirst and helps prevent stomach problems. Indian food is tastey but some dishes are hot and spicey. So before you order consult the waiter or the room service boy.

For long distance travel inside Kerala opt for train. For eg. If you want to travel from Alappuzha to Kozhikode train is the best option. For less distances you can opt Kerala state road transport corporation buses or private buses. If you prefer to travel in a taxi car from airport,you can get taxi coupons from kiosks inside airport. Auto,a three wheeled vehicle is the common taxi in Kerala. But while travelling in an auto make sure the meter is running. If not ask a localite how much is the normal charge to the place you want to travel. That will help you from auto driver ripping your pocket.

When you talk to a keralite, speak slowly and clearly as some localites find it difficult to understand foreign accent.

So please prefer authorised massage parlours attached to good hotels. You can also go for kottakkal arya vaidya sala run by a family of ancient ayurveda experts. They provide full body oil massages that are not more than thousand indian rupees

If you mingle with keralites be sure about their culture. Keralites are friendly and helpful,they love it when you respect their culture and heritage. So be sure to remove your shoes, before you enter a Keralite house. Keralites formally greet saying namaskaram and less formal ones may just smile and welcome you. Keralites dont usually kiss to greet.

When you shop for souvenirs opt for authorised craft shops such as khadi kendras promoted by goverment,as they have standardised pricing.
