Kottayam

Kottayam derived its name from two words "kotta" meaning fort and "ayam" meaning interior ie interior of the fort. Kumarakom, the perfect honey moon get away and Wagamon,a dream of every mountainer is situated in Kottayam. Ancient temples and churches, palaces with rich heritage and beautiful water falls make Kottayam more appealing to tourists.Kottayam is surrounded by sahya mountains in the east, Vembanad lake and Alappuzha in the east, Pathanamthitta in the south and ernakulam in the north. Kottayam is the biggest producer of rubber and banana. K.R.Narayanan,the former president of India hails from Kottayam. You can reach Kottayam via air by nedumbasserry airport which is 88km away or by Trivandrum airport which is 159km away. If you are travelling by rail, you can get down at Kottayam railway station. By road Kerala state road transport corporation buses and private vehicles are available
